Hindsight
They say hindsight is 20/20, but even that is a lie. Looking back at the past doesn't give clarity unless you're willing to look at it with fresh eyes. Hindsight doesn’t restore lost time.
It doesn’t undo words spoken too sharply.
It doesn’t fill empty chairs at the dinner table.
It doesn’t automatically translate into being understood.
But it does give humility.
It gives perspective.
It gives a man the courage to say,
“I would do some things differently now.”
It does not change what was. But it changes how a man stands in what remains.
There are things I cannot revisit.
Conversations I cannot reframe.
Seasons I cannot relive.
But I can be honest now. I can be steady now. I can love you without trying to rewrite history.
If I could give you anything, it would not be an edited version of the past.
It would be this:
A father who sees more clearly now. A father who listens longer. A father who does not defend what should simply be acknowledged.
I cannot go back. But I am here.
