Love In A Different Rhythm
On Mother’s Day, I find myself thinking about a particular kind of strength.
The quiet kind.
The kind that often goes unnoticed because it happens behind closed doors, inside routines no one else fully sees.
I’m thinking about the mothers raising children on the spectrum.
Especially the ones carrying much of the weight alone.
The mothers who became advocates before they ever expected to.
The ones who learned therapies, appointments, school systems, sensory needs, routines, triggers, and patience on a level the world rarely understands.
The mothers who have spent nights worrying.
Who have sat in parking lots crying quietly before pulling themselves together and walking back inside.
The mothers who have fought to help their child be understood in a world that sometimes rushes past what it doesn’t immediately understand.
The mothers who have had to explain, defend, educate, and protect—sometimes all in the same day.
And still somehow find the strength to love fiercely.
I want you to know something today:
What you are doing matters.
Even when progress feels slow.
Even when no one applauds the small victories.
Even when exhaustion sits heavier than hope.
The world often celebrates loud milestones.
But some of the most beautiful victories happen quietly.
A new word.
A moment of eye contact.
A breakthrough after months of waiting.
A calmer day.
A smile.
A moment of connection that someone else might overlook—but you know how hard it was won.
And I know there are mothers who sometimes wonder if they are doing enough.
If they are getting it right.
If they are failing in ways no one else sees.
Please hear this:
Love counts.
Patience counts.
Showing up counts.
Trying again counts.
The fact that you keep showing up—even tired, overwhelmed, uncertain, or carrying it alone—matters more than you know.
And to the mothers who have sometimes felt unseen in their sacrifice:
I see you.
More importantly, your children feel more of your love than you probably realize.
Even when they express it differently.
Even when connection takes its own shape.
Even when the road looks different than what you once imagined.
You are helping build a world where your child knows something essential:
You belong here.
You are loved.
You are worth understanding.
And that kind of love changes lives.
Happy Mother’s Day to the women carrying more than most people know.
You are stronger than you realize.
And what you are building matters. ❤️
