Not the Tooth Fairy, Senator—Just the Truth
When a woman cried out in desperation—“People are going to die!” —Senator Joni Ernst laughed, minimized her pain, and offered Jesus like a punchline.
Let me be clear: the issue isn't faith. It’s the failure to take responsibility while cloaking indifference in scripture.
What she said wasn’t a gaffe—it was a signal.
It signaled that the cries of the vulnerable are an inconvenience. It signaled that real lives are collateral damage to politics as usual. And it signaled something even more dangerous: that those in power are far more comfortable talking about eternity than they are addressing the consequences of their policies right now.
Jesus didn't hand out platitudes when people were dying. He fed the hungry. He healed the sick. He flipped tables in the temples of the powerful. And he never dismissed the desperate.
“Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling. Kiss the Son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.” — Psalm 2:10–12
So no, Senator Ernst. This isn’t about the tooth fairy. This is about the burden of leadership—and the blood that’s on the hands of those who mock the cost of their own decisions.
