The Next Step

Friend,

Sometimes life has a way of making people feel stuck. Like time moved forward while something inside stayed standing in the same place.

Sometimes regret settles in quietly. Mistakes. Missed opportunities. Circumstances that became heavier than expected. Days that slowly became years before we fully realized how long we had been waiting for things to change.

And sometimes, if we are honest, a hard question rises:

Did I miss my chance?

I know something about that road.

There was a time when I thought waiting on God meant standing still. I thought faith meant waiting for certainty—waiting for clarity, waiting for the day when everything suddenly made sense and fear disappeared.

But life rarely seems to work that way.

Over time, something difficult—but strangely freeing—started becoming clearer:

Trusting God does not always mean standing still.

And faith does not always look like certainty.

Sometimes faith looks like partnership. Sometimes it looks like showing up for the part that belongs to us, even when the whole picture still feels unclear.

Sometimes faith sounds like:

I don’t know exactly where this road leads, but I’ll take the next step I can see.

Because life rarely changes all at once.

More often, it changes quietly.

A phone call.

A difficult conversation.

Paperwork filled out.

Asking for help.

Trying again.

Showing up when you feel tired.

Choosing not to give up.

Small steps often feel painfully ordinary while you are taking them. Sometimes they barely feel like progress at all.

But small steps have a way of becoming paths, and paths have a way of leading somewhere you could not see when you first started walking.

Maybe regret feels familiar.

Maybe there are moments when the past feels heavy. Times when it becomes easy to wonder if too much time was lost, too many mistakes were made, or too many doors quietly closed.

Life wounds people sometimes.

People disappoint us.

Circumstances change.

And sometimes survival alone takes more out of us than anyone else realizes.

But one thing life has slowly taught me is this:

Wasted time is not always truly wasted.

Not because every hard thing happened for a reason. And not because every detour somehow becomes beautiful.

But because even difficult roads can teach us something.

Even mistakes can become wisdom.

Even painful seasons can deepen compassion.

And sometimes the very things we wish had never happened become the places where strength quietly begins growing.

Some days faith feels small.

Some days hope feels distant.

Some days getting through the day feels like enough.

If that is where you are right now, I want to gently remind you of something:

You do not need to see the whole road to take the next step.

You only need enough light for the next step in front of you.

Sometimes trust looks less like confidence and more like quiet willingness.

A willingness to keep trying.

To ask one more question.

To fill out the form.

To make the phone call.

To take the walk.

To believe—even quietly—that delay is not the same thing as defeat.

The road may look different than what you imagined.

But different does not mean finished.

And no matter how long life has felt stuck:

One step is still a step.

And along the way you find

Your story is not over.

And even if all you can see right now is the next small step

– sometimes that is enough.
